Drought Continues Spreading Through Western Missouri

More of Western Missouri descended into extreme drought in this week’s US Drought Monitor update.  The third stage of drought conditions expanded in nine counties, entering Benton, Dade, Hickory and Polk counties.  North of the Missouri River, severe drought spread into Carroll, southwest Livingston, eastern Ray, and a majority of Caldwell counties.  Moderate drought made its way into central Buchanan, southwest Caldwell, southern Clinton, and western Ray counties.  On the other side of the state, abnormal dryness now covers the rest of St Charles and St Louis counties, while staying south of Route 40 in St Louis City.

54 percent of Missouri is now in some stage of drought, up one point from last week.  That includes 10.7 percent of the state in extreme drought, with 16.4 percent in severe.  Another 24.6 percent of Missouri is in abnormal dryness.
