Feedlot Population Enter December Down Three Percent

The nation’s feedlots started the final month of 2022 with three percent fewer cattle on hand compared to a year ago.  The monthly update from USDA indicates that 11,673,000 cattle were on feed at the start of December, a net decline of 312,000 from a year ago and 23,000 from the start of November.  Placements were down two percent from a year ago at 1,925,000, while marketings were up slightly at 1,891,000.
