Livestock Marketing Association Spearheads Historic Meeting Of Cattle Groups
A historic meeting earlier this month between cattle organizations came together at the direction of an organization based in the Kansas City metro. The Livestock Marketing Association represents over 800 member salebarns across the U.S., whose clientele generally comprise the membership of three cattle groups: National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), Ranchers and Cattlemen’s Action Legal Fund (R-CALF), and the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association (USCA). Chelsea Good, LMA’s vice president of government and industry affairs, explains why LMA stepped forward to bring to the table groups that at times don’t see eye-to-eye.
Representatives from the American Farm Bureau Federation and National Farmers Union were also present for the meeting May 10th in Phoenix. Good says the groups agreed to take three steps.
Chelsea Good of the Livestock Marketing Association adds that the six groups also agreed to encourage investment in local, independent meat processors and packing plants. She says she’s hopeful that follow-up meetings will take place this summer.
