MN Fall Harvest Wrapping Up, Drought Presists
Minnesota had 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending November 6, 2022, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Soil moisture levels continued to drop as a lack of precipitation continued. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 23 percent very short, 40 percent short, 37 percent adequate, and 0 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 19 percent very short, 39 percent short, 42 percent adequate, and 0 percent surplus.
Corn harvested for grain was at 92 percent, on pace with last year and thirteen days ahead of the 5-year average. Corn moisture content of grain at harvest averaged 16 percent.
Sunflowers were 87 percent harvested, about eight days behind last year but a week ahead of the 5-year average.
