Tips For Prescribed Burning To Encourage Pollinators

Farmers looking to reduce weeds and promote pollinator growth are encouraged to consider whether they should conduct a prescribed burn.  Brady Lichtenberg, conservation programs manager with Missouri Soybeans, says a controlled burn during the winter helps to control unwanted plants while avoiding damage to crops.

Lichtenberg says safety is key to ensuring a successful burn.

Lichtemberg also advises farmers who are about to conduct a burn that they should wear clothing that is less likely to catch on fire, as well as inform neighbors and the local fire department of their plans.

Additional tips and resources are available through the Missouri Prescribed Fire Council’s website.
