With six million acres of soybeans projected for Missouri this season and warmer temperatures to start spring, farmers across the state are eager to plant their fields sooner.  University of Missouri Extension state soybean specialist Dr Andre Reis says most areas of the state have historically seen stronger yields when planted earlier.

Missouri yields in recent years have struggled to keep pace with several neighboring states.  Reis says while early planting is helpful, his researchers have been looking to identify seed varieties that can withstand dry spells during the summer.

Several of the projects undertaken by University of Missouri Extension soybean specialist Dr Andre Reis are funded in part by the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council.
